Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit Biography

Madhuri Dixit made a humble beginning with the Rajshris. The film was called Abodh and had the then Tollywood (Calcutta) superstar Tapash Pal cast as her hero.

The film bombed and Madhuri's future in Bollywood did not seem too bright. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai wasn't detracted though. He always said that Madhuri had the potential to be the number one and maintained at that.

Ghai did not give up on the Maharashtrian beauty and re-introduced her in Ram Lakhan. The film succeeded in exposing Madhuri's beauty and people dubbed her as the reincarnation of Madhubala.

The film that cut the ice and established Madhuri in the big league was N Chandra's Tezaab. The film was a huge success and the Saroj Khan-choreographed 'Ek do teen' entered the hallmark of extremely popular dance numbers. The item with a liberal dose of jhatkas not only propelled Madhuri towards stardom, it also established Saroj Khan as a hot dance director.

After Tezaab, producers and directors waited for months to let Madhuri's dates coincide with Saroj's. Meanwhile, Subhash Ghai was still carving out a strategy to present Madhuri as the successor to the then reigning queen Sridevi. Khalnayak fulfilled his dream. Madhuri became the next super girl with 'Choli ke peeche'.

Madhuri still reins but marriage has made changes in her list of priorities. She has cut down on her assignments and spends more time with her medico husband based in Los Angeles

Juhi Chawla

Juhi Chawla Biography

A certain class and benevolence has always separated Juhi Chawla from her ilk. Her upbringing in a family where education, etiquette and propriety were given their due importance, Juhi was bound to imbibe all the sophistication to cultivate herself as a true lady.

A mother heading the hospitality of the Taj Group, primary education in Mumbai's Fort Convent, college education in HR and Sydenham and all those growing up years in South Mumbai led to the formation of the refined young actress of Bollywood.

Before she became a heartthrob of the nation with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Juhi contested for Femina Miss India and won the crown. In 1984 she went to Miami representing India at the Miss Universe Pageant. Though she did not win the title, she came back home loaded with experience, which she shared with the viewers on television.

Though a beauty queen, Juhi successfully managed to steer clear of a sexy image and carved a niche of the innocent, vivacious girl in pigtails. She refused to star in films that could project her as a sexy and glamorous star. Lootere, for example, is one film which Juhi wasn't keen on doing as she thought it would ruin her 'girl' image. After friends cajoled her into doing it Juhi acquired the glamour tag too. There has been no looking back since then. Yash Chopra signed Juhi for Darr a film which consolidated the actress's star value. On the personal front, Juhi is a thorough friend. Her commitment and a sense of attachment to her friends is for life. According to filmi journo and Chawla's college mate, Omar Qureshi, Juhi is a person to stick by her friends, newcomers or stars. That is how her firm friendship with Shah Rukh Khan started. SRK has ever been grateful to the star Juhi for agreeing to work opposite him, a newcomer then, in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.

The story of a sparky showdown between the actress and her first ever filmi friend, Aamir Khan, is quite famous. It is sad that such good friends (it is told that Juhi refused to proceed with any of her family celebrations till Aamir and his wife arrived) never really got back.

It just took Aamir to crack a joke at Juhi's expense when the actress was not in a good frame of mind. That was it. She blew it off. And the sensitive Aamir never really forgave her. History of that sort should not repeat itself. Juhi's trustworthiness and her trusting self makes her a precious friend to lose. A quality that will keep her embedded on people's minds long after the star Juhi fades away into oblivion

Kajol made her presence on the silver screen with her debut 'Bekhudi' co-starring with Kamal Sadaana and directed by Rahul Rawaail. The film did not do much good for her. The movie Yeh Dillagi displayed her spontaneity and confidence in her talent. Soon Kajol began hitting the Bollywood silver screens more often. The success or failures of her movies did not affect the actress in her.

Kajol was one among the few who broke the Bollywood expectations of a heroine with a fair complexion, chiseled features and a slim body as the credentials. Her talent was much spoken of by both her fans and the film industry. Hailing from a strong financial background, her pursuit of acting was rather a hobby than a career. Hence she was free from making compromises in choosing her movies for the sake of money.

Kajol shared a wonderful chemistry on the screen with Sharukh Khan and there were a lot of successful Bollywood movies starring both of them like 'Baazigar,' 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayengae,' 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,' 'Kabhi Kushi Kabi Gham'.

Her exemplary performance in 'Gupt' fetched her the 'Film Fare Best Villain Award'. She also has the credit of being the first female actor to have won this award. At the peak of her career, she tied the knot with Ajay Devagan. Kajol is now a mother of a baby girl Nysa.

Marriage however did not put an end to her acting faculties. 'Kabi Kushi Kabi Gham' was done after her wedding in 2001. She again made a reentry with 'Fana' in 2006. She also made a special appearance in ' Kabi Alvida Na Kehna' for the song ' Rock n Roll Soniye'. Her new venture 'Main Tum Aur Hum' is yet to be released.

Her looks and talent made her a sure shot winner in the beauty pageants but faring equally well in films was a point to be debated. Would Aishwarya be able to deliver emotions, dialogues and dance with the same élan?

Aishwarya Rai's first film, 'Iruvar' (in Tamil) laid an expensive egg in the south. Ditto for Aur Pyar Ho Gaya and Jeans. But eventually, the girl with a million-dollar face combined with a strong personality and intelligence conquered Bollywood.

The debate concluded and went in Ash's favor. Almost all the happening directors and producers of Bollywood started booking her dates for their projects. The success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Taal proved that she possessed and could deliver all that it takes to top the charts in Bollywood.

There were speculations over her being cast as Shah Rukh's sister in Mansoor Khan's Josh. People predicted doom for Ash's career when they heard of her acting as SRK's sister in the film.

Now even those speculations have been put to rest. The film may not have done roaring business in the box office but Aishwarya Rai is untainted. She commands the same rating. In recent times, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam earned awards and acclaim abroad. That has given an international edge to Aishwarya Rai's star status, something she enjoyed even with the Miss World title.

All this has done the inevitable to Aishwarya Rai's career graph. She has the major producers and directors chasing her for dates. Leading men in the industry send feelers to producers to cast them opposite her.

Priyadarshan's Chandralekha, Indian (with Sunny Deol), Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke and Sitaram Radheshyam (with Sunil Shetty), Sanjay Bhansali's Devdas, Albela (with Jackie and Govinda), Yash Chopra's Mohabbatein are some of her forthcoming films.

Born in a traditional south Indian family, Aishwarya Rai started modelling at a young age. This green-blue eyed beauty stole ads for many prestigious firms, the ones which brought her into the limelight were the garden sari and the pepsi ad. Crowned Miss femina '94 runner up, she was a hot favorite to win the miss world title, which she did ! Her beauty and charm made her India's darling. Ash has now stormed into the bollywood movie industry where she's out to prove that she make a good actress too! Her performance in Iruvar (1997) was critically approved and she bagged the screen best female debutant award for her role in ...Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997). With more than a handful prestigious projects expected to be released it would be difficult to ignore her !
